Service Designer Level 6 Apprenticeship
Advance your career with CMI Level 6
Our Service Designer Level 6 apprenticeship is part of the Transformational Leadership Pathway. It is built for leaders across health and social care who shape services, support people and manage growing complexity every day.
The programme brings human-centred leadership together with practical, system-focused improvement. You’ll learn to design services that are safe, effective and responsive, with the needs and voices of patients and communities at the heart of every decision.
You’ll work on challenges drawn from your own organisation and put evidence-based improvement methods into practice straight away. Through facilitated Improvement PODs, you’ll solve problems with peers from other services and create measurable change where it matters most.
Successful apprentices achieve the CMI Level 6 Diploma in Strategic Management & Leadership, aligned to the Level 6 Service Designer apprenticeship standard.
Who is it for?
This apprenticeship suits senior and aspiring senior leaders responsible for improving services in health and social care. Typical roles include Head of Continuous Improvement, Business Improvement Manager (Health & Social Care), Commercial & Partnerships Manager (Integrated Health & Care Services), Service Designer (Patient & Community-Centred Services) and GP Practice Manager (Primary Care Services).
To get the most from the programme, you’ll usually:

- Be responsible for building improvement capability in others, not only delivering it yourself
- Be able to show measurable impact on quality, cost, time or sustainability
- Work in a complex environment with ambiguity, risk and competing priorities
