Discover how Ioda’s Level 5 Coaching Professional programme helped Becca Nicholas build the confidence, capability and coaching skills to progress her career and make a greater impact at Kent County Council.

The story
Becca Nicholas from Kent County Council had always been passionate about helping people and wanted to develop her coaching skills through a formal qualification.
When the opportunity arose to complete Ioda’s Level 5 Coaching Professional programme, she successfully secured a place and set out to build the confidence, capability and understanding needed to better support others and progress her career.

The solution
Through Ioda’s Level 5 Coaching Professional programme, Becca developed the coaching skills, confidence and self-awareness needed to support others more effectively.
Delivered through a blend of online workshops, collaborative learning and one-to-one coaching, the programme helped her strengthen active listening, create space for reflection and empower others to find their own solutions.
As her confidence grew, so did opportunities within Kent County Council. Recognising her development, her manager invited her to coach colleagues recovering from the effects of flooding, allowing her to apply her learning in a meaningful way and make a positive impact on others.

“I have always been interested in coaching. In previous roles, I had seen how it helped people make decisions and become more resilient. When I saw that my employer was offering the opportunity to get a Level 5 coaching qualification, I jumped at the chance.
I wanted to get this qualification so that I could progress my career, plus also be a better person. I love helping people, but I didn’t have the skills to help without butting in and telling people what to do! This course really helped me by giving me the understanding of silence and space.
The learning was delivered online. I have done other courses online but this was the first time I had done a long-term course online. I was a bit trepidatious as online training can be hit and miss! I needn’t have worried – the training was excellent! The trainers were engaging, supportive and kind. We had group sessions, and also 1-1 sessions with our own coach. Ioda were just so excellent, I would love to do more training with them!
I really learnt how to listen, which is so vital to coaching. I also learned that I am good at coaching, which was a nice surprise! My manager saw my development and asked me to coach people who are recovering from traumatic effects of flooding. As my role changed, my salary banding was adjusted. I feel so motivated in my work.”
