Developing Effective Working Relationships
Background:

The very nature of human relationships brings with it the benefits of motivation, enthusiasm and encouragement.  However all too often, without careful management and the willingness to follow the organisations expected standards of behaviour, these human relationships can splinter or at worse fail.

While organisations do recognise that their most valuable resource is indeed their people, they can often neglect or fail to acknowledge relationships between colleagues needs maintenance and management.

Often managers fail to 'call things by their correct name'.  Regularly phrases like 'doesn't suffer fools gladly', 'that's just how he is' or 'she's always been like that' are used to describe inappropriate behaviour or even bullying.  Sadly, this type of behaviour can transmit itself laterally through colleagues and even upwards, affecting managers who feel as if they have lost control.  Highly motivated individuals and top performing teams do not happen by accident.  Where staff fail to communicate, trust or rely on each other the outcome is unhappiness, stress and self-limiting performance.

The need to manage working relationships in a productive fashion is critical if performance is to be improved and maintained whilst retaining staff

Overview:

This is often a highly charged and emotional learning experience with individuals being supported and encouraged to explore challenging or limiting behaviours or practices within a safe learning environment.  A highly experienced and specialist trainer skilfully facilitates delegates through the emotional barriers and individual perceptions of themselves and colleagues.  The principles of a fair, healthy and motivating environment under the organisations values and expectations are used as a framework to establish current relationships, identify strengths and areas for improvement.

Delegates are enabled to take ownership of themselves, their behaviour and their impact on others.

Aims:

·         To identify the symptoms and outcomes of a healthy working relationship and develop practical strategies, techniques and skills to work with others

·         To develop confidence in themselves and their colleagues and agree a 'contract' of behaviour to move forward in a productive and healthy way
