Background:
Since the Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations of 2003, it has been illegal to discriminate against an employee on the grounds of religious belief but there is a often a complacency amongst organisations regarding their obligations in this matter. In 2007, there were more than 600 tribunals where religious belief discrimination was cited, with some awards up to £125,000.
