Managing problems requires not only skills and knowledge but also confidence on the part of the manager to have these often difficult conversations. Effective training enables managers to be courageous and have the discussions that are necessary but often overlooked.
The importance of successfully managing performance and challenging inappropriate behaviour at the earliest opportunity can never be overstated. All too often, initial problems or conflicts are overlooked or ignored and can engender poor performance or escalate into formal complaints and grievances. These are damaging to staff and the organisation in terms of morale, cost effectiveness and lost opportunities. In the worst scenarios, they can even result in employment tribunals.
