Investigative Interviewing
Background:

Effective interviewing skills are highly specialised but can be learned relatively easily using appropriate models and techniques.Investigative interviewing was significantly improved with the introduction of the PEACE model. This approach was designed after extensive national research and agreed as best practice by the Home Office and is now utilised by every Police Service throughout the UK.The flexibility and simplicity of this model allows it to be used in a wide and varied range of situations including complaints and grievance enquiries. The structure of the approach provides managers with a set-by-step framework to work within, ensuring a sense of support and confidence at all times.

Overview:

The course is highly participatory, encouraging delegates to actively engage in practice interviews with tutor support and guidance.

The emphasis of this course is on the investigators role playing interviews. To achieve this, a small room adjoining the classroom will be set up as an interview room. The interview room will be fitted with a camera which will feed the role play to a television in the classroom.

Delegates act as role actors for each other and provide ongoing structured feedback throughout the course. On completion, delegates leave with enhanced skills, confidence and the support booklet outlining the process in depth.
