Aim:

The Race Relations Amendment Act imposes a statutory duty on public bodies to examine their functions and polices for relevance in eliminating discrimination and promoting Equality and positive Race Relations

It is then essential to assess the impact of both existing and new polices and procedures. Many organisations are also taking the opportunity to carry out impact assessments on all strands of Equality, thereby fully embracing Diversity.

This practical course explains how to be successful when carrying out EQIA.

It sets out the importance of doing these assessments in a way that complies with relevant legislation and explores the positive impact within the workforce. But perhaps most of all it shows participants how to actually do EQIA.

See below for a few of the many benefits and a brief course overview:

  • Understand the need for EQIA and the different ‘target groups’ within the workforce
  • Practically assess and record EQIA – creating a positive impact
  • Experience using the framework in a practical way that achieves results and quality information.
  • Have an understanding of how to deal with adverse impacts and negative assessments.
  • Recognise Diversity as a concept and a practical issue within the Organisation and the community.
  • Understand prejudice and discrimination.
  • Understand stereotyping when dealing with groups within the organisation and the broader community.
  • State and describe the need for Impact Assessments in the context of the Race Relations Amendment Act and other Equality legislation.
  • Recognise the framework for performing Equality Impact Assessment including consultation, assessment considerations, outcomes, monitoring and evaluations.
  • Apply the framework, competency best practice within organisations and examine current organisational policies.
  • Analyse and recognise how to deal with negative impacts
